It has been an exhilarating and exhausting day here at Little Plum Place. Our day began with bounding (okay crawling) out of bed at 5:00 a.m. to make preparations for the day ahead. By 6:00 a.m. we had successfully set the dumpster for the final push of the remodel, landscaping clean up and a new roof. At 7:30 a.m. the plumber arrived to do all of the finish work and shortly before 9:00 a.m. the crew arrived to start on the new metal roof. I stayed occupied with taking out remodel refuse, raking around the maple tree to clean up the mess (another story for later this week) and answering phone calls. By 11:30 a.m. it was time for me to head to town. A quick return of one item and a few more needed purchases before heading to dear old Dad’s. Rick sent me a text while I was on the road….the new washer and dryer was on their way.
Dad has a trailer, which comes in very handy from time to time. Saturday’s run to the dump helped us in so many ways. The dump is an interesting place. There are certain rules, most are posted and some are “unwritten rules”, like how to maneuver the web of roads and ramps to various drop off points. We went today to take some unwanted brush and collect a load of wood chips to dress the lilies I planted this weekend and some for the wood/garden shed. The wood chips and mulch that is available is FREE. (Somehow this fact had missed my brothers knowledge base of the area.) Who doesn’t like free stuff? It was a gorgeous afternoon to be at the working end of a shovel. Loaded, back on the road by 1:25 p.m. and to Little Plum for an afternoon of watering lilies and applying wood chips as a heavy mulch.
We took some time to watch the crew work their magic at magnificent heights.
It is always amazing to see a well oiled crew doing their jobs so well. Rick asked one of the crew about removing the cross from the steeple (not covered in our contract). The crew was so happy to have a dumpster on hand that a couple of guys took a few minutes, scaled an extension ladder and viola! Cross on the ground, workmen safe and Rick
happy. I unfortunately missed seeing this feat. I was back on the road with Dad to return the trailer and fetch my car.
Too tired to cook, I stopped by the Arkansaw Rec Hall. A local bar with excellent pizza. Not your typical pizza….great pizza. My favorite is the vegetarian. Artichokes, corn, pesto sauce, tomatoes, onions…etc A superb pizza. Hot pizza in the front seat of the car, I start to head back to Little Plum to be met with another text…and another delivery.
Our last delivery was the lawnmower. At 6:00 p.m. as the roofing crew waved good bye for the day, Rick and I were having our operational check over with the sales agent. By this time of the day we were both so tired it was hard to be excited. A quick circle around the yard to get the feel of the machine and I was done.
And….that was our day today. Not your typical day at Little Plum. We are tired, but Rick is very, very happy.
